Introduction

Ud-onyenweaku Farm Complex is nestled in the heart of Umuaroko, Ndume Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria. It stands as a testament to resilience, innovation, and agricultural excellence. The farm's history has been a journey from the Onyenweaku subsistence farm to the current Ud-onyenweaku farm complex, evolving into a pioneering agricultural hub. It began with humble beginnings and has now achieved a status as a commercial farm, specializing in crops such as cocoa, palm fruit, cassava, potatoes, and corn.

Origins and Establishment

Established in 1950 by visionary entrepreneur, Late Chief David. N Onyenweaku who began as a sheep herder, that transited into modest plot of land dedicated to subsistence farming in cassava. There was a paradigm shift into Cocoa farming, occasioned by assistance of the Government through Late Chief Michael Okpara, the Premier of Easter Region of Nigeria. The Easter Government offered free Coca seedlings and work pay of farmer as a palliatives and encouragement to farmers. Late Chief David. N Onyenweaku, fueled by a passion for agriculture and a desire to contribute to his community's prosperity, cleared the land by hand and planted the first seeds of which became a thriving agricultural enterprise.

Early Years

In its early years, Ud-onyenweaku farm complex was primarily focused on cultivation of staple crops such as cassava, maize, and yams to meet local demand, before transitioning into inclusion of Cocoa plantation. Despite facing numerous challenges, he started by payment for leased lands, temporarily awarded to him by the landowners during his farming career, until he gradually purchased over 400 hectares of land from the landowners. Ud-onyenweaku farm complex dedication and hard work laid the foundation for the farm's future success.

Throughout its history, Ud-onyenweaku farm complex. has experienced several key events and milestones that have shaped its trajectory. In 1961, the farm was original known as Onyenweaku. Thereafter, transitioned to Ud-onyenweaku farm complex, that expanded its operations to include Cocoa farming. Ud-onyenweaku farm complex was officially registered in 2020 under Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission. Over the years, Ud-onyenweaku farm complex has introduced modern techniques and breeds that improved efficiency and productivity. This marked the beginning of Ud-onyenweaku farm complex, National reputation for Agricultural innovation in Nigeria into exportation of Cocoa seedlings to beverage producing industries.

Awards and Recognition

Chief David Nnochirionye Onyenweaku has been awarded at numerous societies. One of the most respectable was when, he was declared number one cocoa producer in Nigeria in the year 2012. He was among the 148 people that were awarded the prestigious National Honors by President Goodluck Jonathan. Onyenweaku who hails from Ahiaeke village was given Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR).
